Mirtha, founder & lead teacher

Mirtha grew up in Peru and has always spoken Spanish as her first language. She holds a degree in Early Childhood Education and is a certified Montessori teacher, and for the past 14 years she has worked with the same age group: toddlers, from the moment they start walking to the moment they're ready to advance to the next stage of learning.

She runs her program out of her home in near Tatum Ranch, keeping the group small on purpose. Parents who have worked with her describe her as attentive, patient, creative, and, above all, fun. Toddlers this age learn best from someone who genuinely enjoys being with them, and that's the environment she has built her career around.

"Every child has an absorbent mind, and a real desire to learn. They learn through play, through work, and through the freedom to do things for themselves."

That belief, drawn directly from Montessori philosophy, shapes how Mirtha sets up her classroom. Children move through their day at their own pace, choosing activities that match where they are in their development, while she guides them gently toward independence, in both English and Spanish.

The program

Montessori, bilingual, and built around fun

Every day includes both English and Spanish, with Montessori materials introducing and reinforcing concepts across five areas:

Practical Life

Vida práctica

Sensorial

Sensorial

Language

Lenguaje

Art

Arte

Math

Matematicas

Language is a particular focus at this age, since 14 months to 3 years is a critical window for it. Rather than a set "Spanish lesson," the language moves in and out of every activity, the same way it would in a bilingual household.
